Happy Hump Day!
I’ve done skin, I’ve done shoes, I’ve done buns…Time for hair! I don’t know about any of you, but my hair took a serious beat down this past winter. I think it has something to do with working every day, which leads to more showering, blow drying, curling and straightening. Yikes! I look like I stuck my finger in an electrical socket.
Earlier this week I started to Google at home hair treatments. I was looking for something easy and affordable and not too disgusting. I didn’t want to do a mayonnaise treatment (sick), or mash up 35 avocados to coat my hair with (expensive), and most certainly did not want to do a “beer rinse” after a long weekend of drinking (barf). So finally I came across a do it yourself hair treatment that is super easy. All you need is Virgin Coconut Oil. We actually had this already in our pantry- who would have thought? You can buy it at Whole Foods.
Here’s how: Coconut oil has a pasty texture- not like olive oil. So what you have to do is melt it down by putting it into a glass, and then placing the glass into a pot of hot water on the stove until it melts. Once it’s melted, coat your hair entirely in the oil, bundle it up on your head and put a shower cap on. Let it sit for 2 hours, and then shower and shampoo. TA DAAA! Instant, shiny, soft, luxurious locks!
Side Note: Be sure to shampoo 2-3 times to get all the oil out. If you shampoo only once you are going to be sporting the greasy-mullet look all day. Not cute.
